Finally, yesterday I migrated my laptop to Microsoft Vista OS. My first wow was - "WOW, this is so much like Mac OS X"!
I have been using Google Desktop Search for more than two years and with this migration, with Vista Instant Search, I thought, I should be able to use powerful search capabilities directly out of the box. Like many, I am disgruntled user of Lotus Notes' search features and I had found my solace in Google Enterprise Search - which offers amazing Lotus Notes search capability.
However my hope didn't last long, to find that unlike WDS 3.0 (which I have used and also posted a comparison with Google Desktop), the Vista Search doesn't support Lotus Notes. I have to wait for future updates for IFilter support...till then, I am back again to Google Desktop Search.
You may face problem integrating Lotus Notes Plug-In for Google Enterprise Desktop Search. Each time when you try to enable Lotus Notes Plug-In (did you know: IBM and Google co-developed the plug-in) you will receive the message: "Installation of the IBM Lotus Notes Plug-in for Google Desktop was not able to be completed. Please verify that you have the most recent version of Google Desktop and try again."
There is no need to download any recent version. This problem is related to Microsoft Vista's new feature UAC. (another Wow from Mac, which allows admin lock/unlock feature but is not as annoying as UAC!).

To enable Google Desktop Search's Lotus Notes Plug-in, run the Notes application as Administrator. This can be done via Properties tab. If you want to get rid annoying messages each time, simply turn off UAC through User Accounts. Álas, these options will require admin rights! Ideally, I hope Google will release the next version of Desktop Search which is compliant with UAC.
Finally, I had to choose between the sidebars. After trying Windows sidebar and my favorite gadgets, I decided, Windows sidebar is far better than that of Google's. This view of mine is in terms of UI experience, quality of gadgets and most importantly very easy to use and smart feed reader..Wow!
